about

Andrew Hartless was born and raised in Rockbridge County. Seven years ago, he moved to Lexington to care for family. Andrew is running for the Virginia House of Delegates for the 37th district which includes the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt , Craig, and Rockbridge (part); and the cities of Buena Visa, Covington, and Lexington. Growing up in a house with a Republican father and a Democratic mother, Andrew learned the value of healthy disagreement at a very young age.

Andrew graduated summa cum laude from Mountain Gateway Community College, achieving a degree of computer information and systems. He has worked at Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute in food service and directly with students. Currently, he is an assistant director for a local community theater. He wants to support teachers and community colleges across the region.

When Andrew was 13, he had a heath emergency that lead to a 5 year medical battle ending in a liver transplant at only 17 years old. Watching his family struggle with overwhelming medical bills and make nearly two-hour drives to reach his transplant center gave him a firsthand understanding of the deep inequities in our healthcare system. He now serves as a volunteer medical advocate for pediatric transplant patients. Andrew understands on a personal level the need for medical facilities across the district, and the dangers of funding cuts to our local hospitals. Due to funding cuts, three rural clinics in our region have been combined or cut in the past year alone.

Andrew has been an active part of this community his entire life, and wants to give back to the community that has given him so much. He wishes to bridge the political divide harming the nation, working towards a kinder and more understanding Virginia.
